THE HUNGER GAMES ANALYSIS
PLACE
It takes place in District 12 called Seam, Panem. Seam is where Katniss, Gale and their families live. Seam is on the outside of Panem near the Meadow and remains of the 13. District. In addition citizens of Seam starve to death and they are poor.
There used to be 13 districts but 13. District was destroyed by Capitol, the capital city of Panem, during the First Rebellion. Seam is the poorest area of Panem. Seam is buzzing with coal miners. In addition Katniss lost her father during an mine explosion. There is the Meadow outside the high chain link fence topped with barbed wire loops. It is forbidden to leave the fence and go to Meadow.

QUOTES
Gale to Katniss: ''Leave the district. Run off. Live into the woods. You and I could make it.'' Page9 Katniss: ''District 12 where you can starve to death in safety.'' Page 6
TIME PERIOD
The time period is not specified in The Hunger Games, but it can be sometime after the 21st Century. It takes place during the 75. Hunger Games Tributes.
It also takes place in the future as we see the technology is much more progressed than the today's technology . It takes place in a dystopian future.Unfortunately despite the fact that the technology is more developed, the people are starving. In order to get food they work in the mines. There are few gates to reach Meadow, the restricted area of Seam. Katniss and Gale are good at hunting so they go to restricted Meadow and hunt different kind of animals like squirrel. They trade them and gain money to get food.

CHARACTER ANALYSIS
KATNISS EVERDEEN
She is the protagonist and the narrator of the novel. She lost her father during a mine explosion. His father was a coal miner. Her class is very below. She has a olive coloured skin, dark brown hair and grey eyes. In addition, she has a strong heart in terms of emotions. She is the tough girl but sometimes she reflects her emotions. Moreover, she is the best hunter in Gale's terms. By the way Gale is the only person who causes her to be herself. She also knows about the herbs and she gathers them. She is by far the most mature among her peers. By the way she plays the role as the leader of the family. Because she looks after her little sister Prim and also provide the family (Prim, her mother and herself) food. She loves Prim the most. She is boldly protective over Prim. Because she wants to be sure of Prim's secure. There is the Hunger Games. There are tributes which are selected from all the 12 districts. It happens by a draw. Prim is selected by the draw. However Katniss was determined to join the games (there is the major fact of Prim to killed cause she can not be capable of surviving without Katniss) and everything started by then.In terms of The Hunger Games she is brave enough to kill someone. However she can carry out her own strategies for killing the other tributes but not like a unfeeling killer. She just kills when she is in need. There is Rue who is the female from District 11. They become allies and I consider that Rue makes an image of Prim in the eyes of Katniss. Moreover there is Peeta. He is the other chosen one from District 12. Katniss has feelings for Peeta and also Gale (he is from Seam, they hang out and hunt together.)
QUOTES
Katniss Everdeen: ''How could I leave Prim,
who is the only person in the world I’m certain I love?'' page 10
Katniss Everdeen: ''I protect Prim every way
I can, but I’m powerless against the reaping.'' page 15
Katniss Everdeen: ''In the woods waits the only person with whom I can be
myself. Gale.''

Gale Hawthorne: ''Katniss, it’s just hunting. You’re the best hunter I know. Gale Hawthorne,'' page 40
In the place called Seam where Katniss live, there are people who are starve to death. It's to hard to provide their families with enough food supply, because the majority of the society is poor that's why being able to eating a single loaf of bread is like finding the gold in a coal mine. People are also not well-educated, because they need to work to come home with money so that their stomach won't feel terribly hungry.

PEETA MELLARK
He is the male tribute from District 12. He has ashy blond hair that falls in waves over his forehead and blue eyes. He is medium height with a stocky build. He is the son of town baker. He is skilled at baking bread and cakes. In addition, he is not like Katniss. I mean his father isn't a coal miner like Katniss. His class is one upper class than Katniss. However it's still under the Capitol standards. He doesn't hunt for the food. Being a tribute is something opposite for his character but he can't help it because the draw has gotten him in this situation. After arriving in the Capitol we can see that he is comfortable and confident enough to manipulate the audience during the games and also the interview of District 12 tributes. He has strong feelings (love) for Katniss since he has seen her singing the song when they were in elementry school. Moreover they had the encounter in the rainy afternoon after the time when she lost his father. He saw her misery in that old weather and came with two large loaves of bread that must had fallen into the fire. In terms of the games He is powerful despite the fact that he is just good at baking and has never hunt before.
QUOTES
Katniss Everdeen: '' Medium height, stocky build, ashy blond hair that falls in waves over his forehead. The shock of the moment is registering on his face, you can see his struggle to remain emotionless, but his blue eyes show the alarm I've seen so often in prey. Yet he climbs steadily onto the stage and takes his place.''
Katniss Everdeen:'' On the afternoon of my encounter with Peeta Mellark, the rain was falling in relentless icy sheets.''
Katniis Everdeen:''It was the boy. In his arms, he carried two large loaves of bread that must have fallen into the fire because the crusts were scorched black.''
HAYMITCH ABERNATHY
He is a paunchy, middle aged man. Moreover he is the only surviving victor (in District 12) of the 50 Hunger Games. However in seventy four years District 12 has 2 victors. Moreover he acts as a mentor of Peeta and Katniss before the games begin. He devises them to act as they are in love to get the sympathy of the audience so that they can keep themselves both alive. He is aware of Katniss' power. Because when Haymitch made Katniss feel furious about him she threw the knife barely missing his fingers. He realizes how madly she is focused on winning and how much talented she is. He is often sarcastic and so drunk. However he is able to be sober even he drinks to much. That irritates Katniss intensely. He is also very comfortable. In addition, this comfort that alcohol gives makes him consider the things more strategically and easily.
QUOTES
Katniss Everdeen: ''Then he reads the list of past District 12 victors. In seventy-four years, we have had exactly two. Only one is still alive. Haymitch Abernathy, a paunchy, middle-aged man, who at this moment appears hollering something unintelligible, staggers onto the stage, and falls into the third chair. He's drunk. Very. The crowd responds with its token applause, but he's confused and tries to give Effie Trinket a big hug, which she barely manages to fend off.'' page 19
Haymitch Abernathy: ''Here's some advice. Stay alive.'' page 56

THEMES
1.SACRIFICE
This book is full of sacrifices. For instance Katniss sacrifices herself for Prim by joining the the game voluntarily. In addition, she and Peeta decides to sacrifice themselves by popping the berries in their mouth.
2. LIVING THE DYSTOPIAN SOCIETY

3.POVERTY/ CLASS DISTINCION
There is the Capitol where the people tend to consume like they are some kind of machines that are programmed to waste all the world's supply. They are the minority. This represents the capital system. They don't have ability to think to reduce the consumption. On the other hand in other districts majority is left being starved to death. No one sees the misery in their eyes. However the majority is alone and their life are being playing by the Capitol society in The Hunger Games.
